Research
It
is the mission of ACT! to collect research data
and anecdotal information that lays out a compelling case for action
regarding teacher unreimbursed classroom expenditures.
Our
public education system continually funds nonpriority conferences,
lunches, dinners, and similar items to the tune of thousands of
dollars annually. Furthermore, every fiscal year certain school
district budget accounts typically have carry-over amounts into
the new fiscal year. This occurs while every year there also are
high percentages of teachers paying out-of-pocket for crucial classroom
supplies that remain unreimbursed.
ACT!
will research school district policies for budgeting, fiscal oversight,
and reimbursement procedures. The goal is to identify system opportunities
for stronger deployment of resources in support of teacher classroom
supplies.
The
goal is also to develop more user-friendly protocols and procedures
for teachers to be able to more easily obtain reimbursement for
their out-of-pocket classroom expenditures. Many teachers go through
a school year unreimbursed for their classroom expenditures due
to a burdensome and slow-moving, bureaucratic system that provides
an incentive for not seeking reimbursement.
